VIDEO: Inside the Newsroom – How Divest Harvard Won
By Sarah Burke
Following a decade of sustained student organizing, Harvard University recently agreed to fully divest its roughly 41 billion dollar endowment of any fossil-fuel companies and to bar any future investments in coal, oil, and gas. This historic triumph is a testament to the power of persistence, patience, and tenacity and to the critical importance of giving student journalists a national platform and microphone.
Watch our conversation with co-founder of Divest Harvard, and current Maine Senator, Chloe Maxmin and current co-head of Divest Harvard Ilana Cohen to learn how they did it. Hosted by Nation Editorial Director and Publisher Katrina vanden Heuvel.
Both Maxmin and Cohen have written numerous articles for The Nation Fund’s StudentNation program chronicling the student divestment movement. Read more about the Divest Harvard campaign here.
